Christmas is the biggest festival of Christians. People of Christian community celebrate this festival with great pomp and cheerfulness. This festival is celebrated every year on 25 December. It was on this day that the Lord Jesus Christ was born.

Jesus Christ was a great man and taught society love and humanity. He gave a message to the people of the world to live with love and brotherhood. He is considered the only loving son of God. The rulers of that time did not like the message of Jesus. They killed Jesus by hanging him on the cross. It is believed that Jesus was resurrected.

On Christmas day people of the Christian community decorate their homes very nicely. Christmas preparations start already. The leave lasts for approximately a week. Brightness of markets increases. The houses and markets are illuminated with colorful lights.

The church holds special prayers. People go to meet their relatives and friends at their house. Every one gives each other presents. On this day a Christmas tree is planted in the courtyard. Christmas tree is specially decorated. Cake has special importance in this festival. The tradition of cutting cakes is very old. People feed one another cake and enjoy the celebration. Taking the form of Santa Claus, a person gives gifts, toffees etc. to children.

The legend of Jesus Christ

The story of Christmas is about 2000 years ago. According to the Bible, Rome was ruled at that time and people were tortured a lot. To ease the suffering of the people and to save the people from the rule of Rome, the Lord sent his child Jesus to the earth.

The Lord chose Mary, a virgin girl there for the birth of Jesus, and the Lord sent an angel to Mary. The angel went to Mary and said that you have to give birth to Jesus, the son of God. The angel further said that your son will grow up to become a king and will reduce the atrocities on people. Gabriel, the messenger sent by God, went to Joseph and said that you have to marry a girl named Mary who will give birth to God's child.

On the day Jesus was about to be born, Mary and Joseph were going to Bethlehem. Bethlehem was very crowded at that time and there was no place to live. Then Mary and Joseph spent the night in a stable that night. On the same night Jesus was born and during this time a shining star appeared in the sky which made people realize that their Lord has incarnated on earth.

It was already predicted that on the same day the most bright star appears in the sky, understand that on the same day your Lord has taken birth on the earth. Everybody became very happy with the birth of God. Jesus Christ now started serving them by staying in the midst of the people and their sufferings started trying to remove the pain.

Jesus Christ always gave the message of people to live in brotherhood, humanity and love. He always said that “Do good to anybody who does bad to you and love your enemies too.”
