Goddess Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth and prosperity while Lord Ganesha is the god of wisdom. Worshiping Goddess Mahalakshmi is the most important part of Diwali. It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi visits every house on Diwali and blesses everyone with wealth and riches.
According to the scriptures, once Goddess Lakshmi became proud of her powers and possessions. The goddess greatly admired herself while interacting with her husband, Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu decided to rid him of his ego. Lord Vishnu calmly reminds him that despite having all the qualities, a woman is incomplete if she does not have a child. Motherhood is the greatest happiness a woman can experience, and because not any child of Goddess Laxmi, she cannot be considered complete. By these words from Lord Vishnu, Goddess Laxmi became very upset.
Goddess Lakshmi went to Goddess Parvati to seek help and advice because Goddess Parvati had two sons, Karthikeya and Ganesh. The goddess requested Parvati she wants to adopt one of her son to experience the joy of motherhood. Goddess Parvati was dissatisfied to give Lakshmi to her son as it was known that Lakshmi does not stay in one place for long. So, she will not be able to take care of their son. Lakshmi assured her that she would take care of her son in every possible way and keep him happy forever.
Realizing Lakshmi's pain, Goddess Parvati allowed her to adopt Ganesh as her son. Goddess Lakshmi became very excited and said that she would give Ganesha all her achievements and wealth. Those who worship Lakshmi for prosperity must first do worship of Ganesha. Those who worship Lakshmi without Ganesha will not get any blessing from Goddess Laxmi. Getting prosperity without brainpower will only waste prosperity. Hence, Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesh are worshiped together.
